I wrote only one song (lyrics and melody) in my entire life, when I was around age 16. I grew up listening to all my mother's very sentimental songs sung by Jonny Mathis, Robert Gulet, etc.

I decided to archive it rather than have it lost. I have no idea whether it is of use to anyone. I believe the melody is original, but perhaps it resembles something I once heard.

I used AUDACITY 1.2.4 freeware to record the mp3 of me singing acapella. Sorry, I am not a very good singer, but it is the only way I have to archive the melody, since I am not skilled in writing sheet music.

If anyone cares to write the music down, or has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

When I Was With You - Lyrics

- Sitaram (1965)

Listen to mp3

We met
Our hearts once broken now were mending.
We let
Our troubled spirits sooth in blending.
We spoke
Of love's bad joke
And life's sad game
That had no name or ending.
But then
Our words forgot their sorry ringing
And when
We spoke it was of life's sweet bringing.
Our eyes grew bright and gay,
Our hearts were singing
But isn't that love's way?

My hand brushed your cheek
And you blushed and tried to run
But grew weak.
Then we met and we were one,
Love had just begun,
Speaking time was over.
But days rushed by
Tender dreams were hushed by the
Murmuring echoes our loving had made.

I lie by the sea,
Lie remembering when you were with me.
I lie wondering if you
Lie remembering too
When I was with you.
