These Are the Poems of My Self

(written Monday, 10:25pm, June 20, 1966)

These are the poems of my self,
Written in my own uncertain hand.
And they are the beginning of an era,
In myself,
The beginning of an era being only
The feeling of a change,
Ending with the feeling of another,
Wholly independent
Of quantitative measure.

Life is change,
And change is a continuous compromise
Of two incongruous factors,
The material and the imaginary,
Which cannot be added,
But only described
In a language indiginous
To the observer
And time and space,
Breeched only by sensory perception
And memory,
Which is a change of feeling
In one's self.
